Aaliyah.

Aaliyah has been credited for helping redefine R&B and hip hop in the 1990s, "leaving an indelible imprint on the music industry as a whole." Steve Huey of Allmusic wrote Aaliyah ranks among the "elite" artists of the R&B genre, as she "played a major role in popularizing the stuttering, futuristic production style that consumed hip-hop and urban soul in the late '90s." Described as one of "R&B's most important artists" during the 1990s, her second studio album, One in a Million, became one of the most influential R&B albums of the decade. According to Sal Cinquemani of Slant Magazine, Aaliyah provided a "missing link" between hip hop and electronica. Having sold 8.1 million albums in the United States and over 24 million records worldwide, Aaliyah has been named the "Princess of R&B" and "prove[d] she was a muse in her own right". Ernest Hardy of Rolling Stone dubbed her as the "undisputed queen of the midtempo come-on".

Aaliyah was honored at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards by Janet Jackson, Missy Elliott, Timbaland, Ginuwine and her brother, Rashad, who all paid tribute to her. In the same year, the United States Social Security Administration ranked the name Aaliyah one of the 100 most popular names for newborn girls. Aaliyah was ranked as one of "The Top 40 Women of the Video Era" and "100 Sexiest Artists" in VH1's 2003 The Greatest series. She was also ranked at number 18 on BET's "Top 25 Dancers of All Time". In memory of Aaliyah, the Entertainment Industry Foundation created the Aaliyah Memorial Fund to donate money raised to charities she supported. In December 2009, Billboard magazine ranked Aaliyah at number 181 on the magazine's Top 200 Albums of the Decade.

New Year's Resolution

2O1O is off to a great start; I know it’s still early within the year but I can already tell that this year is going to top off my so-so 2OO9. So my New Years resolution, I’ve decided to have four this year: [IV.] I want to let go of people who want to let go of me. [III.] Be healthy. [II.] Work on my writing. [I.] Get my life back on track. I know these our four New Years resolutions and at times it might be hard to keep up with them but I’m confident enough. [IV.] During 2OO9 I learned a lot about friends and family members; sometimes they don’t have the best intension and they are just out to hurt you or put you down. Even though I knew some of these people didn’t have my best interest I still decided to keep them in my life. But I’ve come to face the reality and decided there is no real reason to keep these relationships; I don’t need the betrayal, so why keep these people in my life. They have already let go of our relationship; so I should do the same and let go of them, [III.] Being healthy; I think that’s one of the most used New Year’s resolutions. But I do want to be healthy; I’ve been watching what I’m eating and how much I eat of it. I’ve also decided to work out [way more then I did in 2OO9] and take yoga classes. [II.] Writing and finishing my novel is really important to me; I love writing. I’ve been writing for a long time; for the longest all I wrote where song lyrics, poems, verses, and things like that. But last year I began writing my own short novel; the story deals about a young man that finds himself in the streets of New York City where he is trying to make it as a professional photographer. I’ll post more on that as my writing continues. [I.] Getting my life back on track; I feel like my life has gone off its course. I really do miss school and plan to go back; I decided to stop school for a while because I really didn’t know what I wanted my career to be. But I’ve had lots of time to think and I know what I want to do with the rest of my life; I miss waking up for classes, have discussions in class, doing homework and taking test. I guess after a while you miss all that stuff or at least I do; I’m excited to be heading back to school this summer. Like I said I’m sure I’ll keep this New Year’s resolutions. I’m so looking forward to the rest of this year; I don’t know what it is but I’m really excited. I feel like it’s a whole new fresh start with: family, friends, work, dating, and just life in general.
